We spoke to Southport Manager Cameron Foster about his sides start to the season, after playing three games already this campaign, both winning, drawing and losing one, resulting in his side being 7th currently in the Premier Division.
"The players are doing well and enjoying training. We can see a huge improvement already in regards to our style of play and feel very positive that the players are developing and learning".
"Our youth set up is run to try and create more first team players".
The club changed its entire structure at the start of the season, seeing a transformation in not just the development sides, but the first team also".
"The Under 17's,18's and 21's have got to create future first team players, if we finish bottom of the league this season but get 1 or 2 lads signed on Conference forms, that will be a success for us".
"The key here is development and we are using this league as a tool".
After 3 games into the season, results are not the end of the world for Foster, but believes it is an 'excting' time to be involved with the club.
"June this year saw us look at 170 players in the 3 youth squads, so we believe every player that come through that system has the potential to move on to better things".
"We have attracted new players from academies due to the new set up here. There is also a lot of local talent too which has come from our own youth set up and other grass roots players looking to push their career forward".
"It's an exciting time at the club and this is just the beginning of the journey".
